Dayo DuBose Speaks up on Working as a Supply Chain Manager

Dayo DuBose says that a supply chain manager makes effective measures in the improvement of production, quality and in the efficiency of operations. A supply chain manager (SCM)keeps an eye on the various operations like shipping and warehousing. SCM’s oversees the movement of goods, from suppliers and manufacturers to customers. They monitor every stage of production flow, from purchasing raw material to the delivery of final products. Following are the responsibilities of supply chain managers are as mentioned below:-

Proper communication with people: Dayo DuBose emphasis on the communication skills of SCM. They should have professional skills to communicate with all types of people through emails, personal interactions, phones or video conference interactions. They must know how to develop communication which may result in decreasing problems and creating values or solving some issues. They must have clear communication with vendors and suppliers throughout procurement lifecycle.

Needs planning and strategic view: A SCM’s role is to coordinate all the manufacturing functions to process orders and fulfills customer’s needs. So a manager should develop some supply chain planning and strategy. SCM must have the ability to optimize operational resources while inventory controlling and reducing cost.  Dayo DuBose says that they should be comfortable while using ERP and WMS solutions.

Proper transportation facility: Managing proper transportation with freight forwarders, warehouse managers, shipping lines is also a responsibility of SCM. They negotiate the rates and contracts with warehouse managers and third-party service providers. They should also know about Border Protection practices and U.S. customs.

Take control of inventory: The most common role of SCM is to take control of inventory, according to Dayo DuBose. They conduct risk assessments on factors like demand factors, supply trends, perishability of products and mitigation of at-risk product. SCM’s also generates reports regarding stock levels and stakeholders.

Management: The responsibility of SCM is to promote development, designs, implementation of warehouse and logistics solutions. They also manage inventory levels, personnel productivity, labor costs, data accuracy, and stocking strategies. Dayo DuBose says that a manager also produces some implementation strategies which improve the efficiency of employee, service quality, and equipment performance and interdepartmental communication.
